To create a successful data program, you need to focus on these three things: 1. DATA STRATEGY Most data programs fail because their vision is too narrow. If it’s too focused on a specific report or project, you risk building solutions that don’t scale, are messy, and are hard to maintain. Instead, you need to: – Define a clear vision – Set high-level goals (Think on the order of year,s not months) When you get this right: – You build scalable, future-proof solutions – You handle challenges more effectively – Teams stay aligned and purpose-driven 2. DATA MANAGEMENT Managing data goes beyond just building reports and pipelines. Key components of data management you can’t ignore are: – Data Integration – Data Modeling – Security and Privacy – Data Quality – Metadata Management – Business Intelligence You wouldn’t order a pizza and expect half of the pie to be missing. The same goes for data management. It’s not complete unless you have all the pieces of the pie. 3. DATA GOVERNANCE Data naturally trends toward chaos. Without governance, you risk: – Bad decisions – Incorrect information – Missed opportunities Strong governance keeps your data: – Accurate – Consistent – Reliable The bottom line: Data programs fail all the time. Most of the time, it’s because one or all three of these key pillars is missing. You don’t have to have a perfect data strategy, data management, or data governance program… But you do need A data strategy, data management, and data governance program. All the Best, Tucker |
